Refreshing your surroundings and oil burner recipe for your work area :)

Do you ever feel completely uninspired? Stagnant? Like your energy is blocked?

That’s how I’ve been feeling for a while and totally uninspired by my work area, it didn’t flow well, it felt cram-pt, claustrophobic and I might as well have been sitting in a card board box!

Staring into space for days on end and not being productive, I guess we all have times like that.

I finally had enough of feeling like that, so I decided to freshen up my surroundings!

It’s good for your well-being, concentration and general focus to refresh your surroundings!

Before I moved my desk it was squashed into a corner with my book-case down one side (which isn’t helpful because you really need to ‘stand back’ to see what’s on the shelves)!

I am well-known for moving my furniture around, (usually at silly o’clock in the morning/ night)!

I am not allowed  to put shelves up/holes in the walls so I got inventive and used a small book-case and placed it on my desk at the back, I tried to fill it with practical things I need to hand and inspiring items.

On the top of the Book shelf are three silver frames, a black and white photo of my great Nan a sketch I made inspired by some one else’s simple drawing of a cat (the blank frame is yet to be filled).

The next shelf down has pictures of family members that have passed and I put black and white photos in the frame I bought from the charity shop! I like the idea that they are watching over me and motivating me. It also has Victorian glass bottles (a group of three) one of them is a very old ‘Eiffel tower’ lemonade bottle and a small ceramic white hinged dove trinket box. 🙂  In the end picture frame is a collage of inspirational and colorful pictures I have collected.

On the middle shelf, I have my favorite picture of me and my brother setting off a ‘lantern’ (the type they had in Disney’s ‘Tangled’  for my birthday in our garden, three wooden quote hearts, a cut glass crystal that my mum bought me (I really need to hang it so it catches the light) and many cassette tapes to listen to.

On the bottom shelf I’ve got spiral note pads, (I am a list maker)! Dictionary, Bird Book, Poetry book, A novelty item ‘all about trees’ that was a Christmas present, my collection of corks in a glass jar, from all different celebrations (I will use in a craft….one day) 😀 My collection of unusual feathers (also in a glass jar) a small old glass container of honey and lemon sweets and a wicker basket of chargers, sticky notes and Laptop accessories.

Down the side of the shelf are two very old glass jars I am using for my pens, pencils, scissors, knitting needles etc.

Room Tour Items… :)

I try to keep my room very calm and not too busy, after all I have to sleep there!

My room is currently painted cream, with a natural biscuit colour carpet, this is useful when I swap around my accessories and key colours ( like my bed cushions).

At the moment my key colour is apple green, it’s fresh and uplifting.

The majority of furniture in my bedroom is wooden mainly solid pine (and although pine has fallen out of favour lately) it gives a nice warmth to the room.

Here are some of my room tour items;

Clean and Tidy-what does your house say about you?

what_s_up[1]

What does your home say about you?

Even the most house proud owner can fall behind with house work, but having a really good cleaning regime and great storage that makes it easier and reduces the time you spend doing it has to be a good thing?

If you were to flick through a magazine and pick out rooms that you would love in your home ask yourself WHY are you attracted to them?

Is it because they are simple and spacious?uncluttered and clean?

Practical?

Colourful?

Quirky?

I bet that room doesn’t have paper work down the side of the sofa? Empty mugs on the mantle piece, random things like pens, your other half’s wallet, car keys and the dogs lead dotted around the room children’s toys covering the floor(an accident waiting to happen). In need of a really thorough hoover/wipe down/mop?
And it probably doesn’t smell like last nights curry, cigarettes or dog?

It’s probably because in this house everything has a place to live a pot for the pens to go in? A hook for the dogs lead? A drawer or bowl for wallets and keys.Good storage and play area allocated for children to limit the spread of toys?A really efficient cleaning regime, reed diffusers and scented candles?

I will be looking at some of the ‘cleaning products,organizing/Storage accessories’ that are on the market and ones that you can make yourself, to make your life, easier, more practical and straight forward and hopefully mean you spend less time cleaning and picking up after every one else and more time doing the nice things in life you enjoy.

Interior Design,

I love so many different types of interior design and ‘themes’ and I’ve always said I need at least 5 houses to decorate to fulfill my ambition of all the different types of Decor I enjoy.

Maybe I should do it for a living? That would solve that issue 😀

Your surroundings are so important whether your tastes be expensive or chabby chic.

Wether you buy everything from new, make your own and put your own personal stamp on it or buy things second-hand from charity shops.

I definitely believe your surroundings reflect a little or alot of YOU.

I regularly view buildings and think about the potential and what I would include in a room, what kind of ‘feel’ I would go for.

I also get lots of inspiration from really good garden centres, magazines, the internet and places I visit.

images[11]

I like my spaces Practical, everything has to have a home, I don’t like clutter, I love mixing old and new, I’d like to think my tastes are fairly classy but basically I think you should make the best of what ever you’ve got.

I create rooms on the ‘feel’ I want to go for, and I like things to match, it doesn’t have to be all the same shade of a colour but I generally don’t have more than 3 colours in a room.I don’t like walking into a room that’s multi coloured unless it’s a childs room 😀

I decorate with what I want the rooms to be used for in mind;

Bedroom- Relaxing, luxurious, minimal, made for sleep.

Lounge- Comfey,Cozey, practical with good Storage, made for Snuggling and movie watching with lots of throws and good lighting for Book reading.

Bathroom-Bright, airy, clean lots of storage, Spa like With maybe a funky Acc colour.

Kitchen-Cute/Practical, Clever storage for food, jars spices etc, Cook Books I don’t like too many things on the side or it tends to look too cluttered.

This is a start of a collection that I will update as I get more pictures of the types of things that inspire me in a room, the sort of thing I would stick on a mood board to bring together a collection for a room and then I would go out and shop with that in mind.
